First Grade Community Helpers Lesson Plan. In this community helper lesson students focus on the job of a teacher. They discuss what a teacher s job entails and create teacher puppets to orally answer discussion questions about what teachers do.
Ask students if anyone knows what a community helper is. Given five community members students will match at least four correctly to the appropriate tools. Teacher selects a word from key vocabulary and writes it in word section.
According to the moorcroft elementary focus calendar which is a guideline for teachers to show what needs to be taught and by when first grade students need to learn about different helpers in our community what jobs they do and how these individuals affect our community.
Student pairs share about their mom and dad s job then a class list is made. Students will also develop listening reading and decoding skills as well as experience with comparing and contrasting.
